Studying in Malaysia from Bangladesh: visa, medical and work rules
Malaysia is now the second-largest destination for Bangladeshi enrolments after China in EMGS data, and the visa process has steps that depend on Bangladeshi nationality: a Single Entry Visa is required, and Bangladesh is not on the Graduate Pass list. This guide sticks to those points, from Education Malaysia's own pages.

What is different from Bangladesh
Bangladeshi nationals need a Single Entry Visa before entering Malaysia
Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) lists Bangladesh among the countries whose nationals need a Single Entry Visa before entering Malaysia. Ask your institution when and where to apply for it, and add time for it to your plan. Source
Bangladesh is not on the Graduate Pass nationality list
EMGS says the Graduate Pass, which gives 12 extra months to work after graduating without an employer sponsor, is open to the listed nationalities. Bangladesh is not on that list; India and China are included only until 31 December 2026 on a case-by-case basis; Vietnam is listed. A Bangladeshi graduate would therefore need to look at other routes, such as an employer-sponsored pass; check Malaysian immigration rules. Source
The medical screening is done after arrival, within 7 working days
EMGS says new international students must attend a medical screening at a panel clinic in Malaysia within 7 working days of arrival, and that EMGS cannot start the student pass endorsement if this is not done. Source
Bangladeshi enrolments in Malaysia grew about 47 percent in a year
Bonikbarta, citing EMGS data in December 2025, reported 6,103 Bangladeshi students enrolled in 2024 and 8,957 by November 2025, making Bangladesh the second-largest source behind China. Source
SSC-level entry leads to foundation or diploma; some universities set Bangladesh-specific rules
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS lists for Bangladeshi applicants: a recognised foundation with a minimum final CGPA of 3.00/4.00 for degree entry, A-levels plus English proficiency, and SSC or Dakhil leading to foundation or a diploma. Other Malaysian universities set their own rules. Source
Bangladeshi certificates go through an attestation chain
ApplyBoard describes the usual order for Bangladesh as the education board, then the Ministry of Education, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Dakhil and Alim certificates verified by the Madrasah Board and translated if issued in Bangla. Confirm the current steps on the official board and ministry sites. Source
Your steps, in order
- Choose a programme at an institution recognised for its qualification; check its Malaysian Qualifications Register entry.
- Check the institution's Bangladesh-specific entry rule for HSC or SSC and whether you need a foundation year.
- Get your certificates verified through the education board, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Let the institution submit the student visa application to EMGS and track it.
- After approval, apply for the Single Entry Visa required for Bangladeshi nationals.
- Plan the medical screening at an EMGS panel clinic within 7 working days of arrival.
- If you want to work after graduating, plan on an employer-sponsored pass, since the Graduate Pass list does not include Bangladesh.
