The programme

Software is the driving fabric behind many of the technological advances that enrich our everyday lives at home, at work and in public. More and more important tasks in government administration, industrial production, health care, public transport, etc., are put into the "digital hands" of mobile and networked computer systems. The underlying software must be extremely reliable and constructed according to the highest standards.
How it is organised
The Master's degree programme builds on a prior six-semester Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) in Software Systems Science or a closely related field of study such as informatics, computer science, software engineering, or computer engineering.
Internships
Students may conduct an internship of at least ten weeks, or 360 working hours, which obtains 12 ECTS credit points towards the study programme.
Part-time work
EU students may have a job while studying at Bamberg. Non-EU students may work for a maximum of 120 days or 240 half days per year. Employment adding up to more than 120 days requires a work permit.
Support for international students
The faculty's Help Desk for the Master's programme provides individual assistance regarding study affairs (helpdesk.ma-isosysc@uni-bamberg.de).

From your country

General requirements for master's applicants. Rules change — confirm with the university and your local German mission.

🇮🇳 Applying from India
  • An APS India certificate is mandatory before your visa appointment — processing takes weeks, so start it the day you decide to apply.
  • Budget for the blocked account (€11,904 for one year in 2026 — verify the current amount with the German Embassy).
  • IELTS/TOEFL is typically required; some universities accept a Medium-of-Instruction letter — check the official program page.

🇳🇬 Applying from Nigeria
  • Proof of funds is usually a blocked account; open it early — transfers and verification take time.
  • WAEC/NECO results are assessed via uni-assist for most universities; a Studienkolleg year may be required for bachelor's entry.
  • Visa appointment slots in Lagos and Abuja book out months ahead — book as soon as you have an admission letter.

🇻🇳 Applying from Vietnam
  • APS Vietnam certification applies to Vietnamese applicants — schedule the document check before university deadlines.
  • Most universities want IELTS 6.0–6.5 for English-taught programs; requirements vary by program.
  • Plan finances around the blocked account plus health insurance — both are checked at the visa stage.

🇧🇩 Applying from Bangladesh
  • Document verification is strict: keep certificates, transcripts, and bank papers consistent and genuine — discrepancies sink applications.
  • The blocked account is the standard proof of funds. You do not need an admission letter to open one, so set it up alongside your applications.
  • Apply to several programs in parallel — visa processing in Dhaka can be slow, and an early admission letter buys you time.

Living in Bamberg

The old fishermen's houses of Klein Venedig along the Regnitz, with a sandstone building on the water and an excursion boat moored at the quay

A UNESCO old town on a river, with one university and about 10,400 students in it.

Bamberg is a small city where the university is part of the old town itself: the Mensa Austraße stands in the old town, the central university address is a few streets from the river, and the university's other sites are spread through the city.
